Great Plains Theatre Conference
Well, the conference was last week. I was the Evening Stage Manager for every evening performance. It was a lot of work. I'm not going to lie about that. But it was an amazing experience.
I met a great group of people, the Saint Fortune Writers group, including a possible cousin of mine Gavin. More lovely people cannot be found. They were always willing to step in and help no matter what. They jumped in at a moments notice at least three times for evening performances. Maybe more, I was kinda busy so I lost track. An amazing group of people.
Also at the conference, our honored playwright, David Lindsay-Abaire, author of such plays as Fuddy Meers (which was presented at Creighton University by the Bridget St. Bridget theatre group) and Rabbit Hole (also presented at Creighton University but done by the Blue Barn Theatre). A truly generous man, so very kind and funny.
I met more people than that and most made very good impressions: Sibyl Kempson, Connie Congdon, Erik Ehn, Dr. Linda Bannister and James Hurd, Jr., all were impeccable and amazing. Truly leaders in their fields.
(The ones who made a not so good impression? Actually the local people made a worse impression on me than the out-of-town people who came in for the conference. No, I will not name names, I still might have to work with some of these people.)
All of the people I have listed were truly amazing and it was an absolute honor to work with them. I have to thank a few people: Katie Cameron, who I am sure helped to get me the job; Scott Working, the only full time theatre instructor at Metro; Steve Bross, my primary contact and who helped to smooth the rough edges, my partner in crime as he put it; and finally Kevin Lawler, the artistic director of the conference who put up with me ;).
